Helpful Information

ALLIANCE Advantage Points System is a simple way to figure out how many fixtures fit on a transformer, or what size transformer you need to complete your project. This is a quick reference guide to get you started. .

How it works:

At Alliance Outdoor Lighting, we want to make landscape lighting easier for the distributor to sell and the contractor to install.  We created the Points Program to easily size the correct transformers to the job.   By simply converting watts to points, such as a light fixture using a 20-watt lamp equals 1 point and a 35-watt light fixture equals 2 points, you can easily determine how many light fixtures fit on each transformer.

  • 300-watt = 14 points
  • 600-watt = 28 points
  • 900-watt = 40 points
  • 1200-watt = 54 points
For example, you can put up to 20 - 35 watt bullet lights on a 900-watt transformer.   Now, mixing 20-watt fixtures with 35-watt becomes as easy as adding 1 plus 2.  Each fixture and transformer box is marked with its point value which makes it easy to calculate your points at the counter or on the job-site.    The Alliance Points Program also takes into account wire resistance (typcially 20% of the transformer load is designated for the wire).  For any single wire run longer than 100-feet, just add a point to the the total load on the transformer.

The CS100 is an easily concealable hub connecting 5 low voltage lights to a single "hone run" wire running back to the transformer.  An example of this would be 5 - 35 watt low voltage fixtures with a "home run" wire back to the transformer would come close to maximizing (175 watts) a 300 watt transformer.  This is because you should only reach 80% (or 240 watts) of the wattage capacity of the transformer due to voltage loss and wire resistance.  The main reason for a hub is for light/voltage consistency and ease of troubleshooting system/fixture problems.

Any wire runs over 100 watts or over 100 feet need to be 10/2 wire all other runs can be sized at 12/2 wire.

Never cut your 25 foot lead wire on your fixture.  If the fixture is less than 25 feet from the hub do not cut the wire, just bury the excess wire near your fixture.  This is only when using a CS100 hub
for your system.  Single run lights back to the transformer can be any length.
